The Cycling Fund 2009-2014 – prelimenary evaluation

The first national Cycle Fund from 2009-2014 was established in 2009, allocating € 134 for promoting cycling in municipalities. The objective of the Cycling Fund is to facilitate projects that can improve conditions for cyclists all over Denmark in order to make the bicycle a more attractive and safe. In this five-year period, the fund received 1,013 applications and co-funded 388 projects. Results show a 24% increase in bicycle traffic on average stretches of road where the Cycling Fund has provided grants for new bicycle tracks.

The Danish Road Directorate has made a new evaluation report that presents the results of the 161 projects, which has been completed and evaluated by 2015.

In 2017, a majority around the Danish government allocated 100 million DKK for promoting cycling in municipalities over a period of two years. Read about the new Cycling Fund here
