HOE360 have joined forces with Niels Jensen, experienced traffic planner from the Municipality of Copenhagen, to develop a training programme for the staff of the city council of Xining.
A new Danish study shows that cyclists and pedestrians contribute to roughly 50 % of the revenue in retailing in the large cities’ centers and roughly 25 % in the small and medium-sized cities. The bicycle is the preferred means of transportation in city centers, and cyclists visit more shops per trip than car drivers.
On Wednesday, October 14th the last truck, loaded with 65 Bycyklen bikes, rolled from Germany into Denmark. The City & Commuter Bike Foundation’s board has now approved the delivery and is happy to see that all of the 1,860 Bycyklen city bikes have been delivered and that the Bycyklen system now counts 90 bike stations.
Exercise, comfort and an easier means of transportation are among the main reasons why thousands of Danes grab the bike and leave the car in the garage. But cyclists are also a contributing factor in limiting global warming. In relation to cars, cyclists emits close to no CO2 from their transport.
How have Danish city planners managed to convince politicians to spend money on bicycle infrastructure? The answer partly lies in the way the Danes do economic analyses. After all, calculations and numbers are the politicians’ best friend.
A new concept, the “bicycle library” has seen the light in Denmark. Here, citizens can get professional advice on what kind of model best suits their needs and try out a wide range of models, all for free.
“Collection of Cycle Concepts 2012” contains the most recent Danish bicycle knowhow on everything from infrastructure and road to campaigns and life style and updates the field since the publication of the first edition of “Collection of Cycle Concepts” from 2000.
The Danish Bike to Work campaign organized by Danish Cyclists’ Federation has been analyzed by the consulting group, COWI.
