Giving the edge to cyclists is a task taken seriously and pursued with great dedication.

- Increase the percentage of commuters that cycle to work or education in Copenhagen to 50%.
- Ensure that 80 % of all cyclists in Copenhagen feel safe in the traffic.

Municipality of Aarhus
Aarhus – City of Cyclists
In Denmark – Aarhus is well known as a “City of Cyclists”. This is due to its longstanding and lively cycling tradition – and in recent years, its City Bikes and plans for further promotion and investments in bicycle traffic.
Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark. Cycling is a socially acceptable means of transport, and it is quite common to see the mayor and politicians cycle to work. Bicycle traffic in Aarhus has grown in recent years. Currently, one in four citizens cycle to work. In Aarhus, cycle planning is an integral part of mainstream traffic planning. The cycle track network of some 250 kms was built over the course of almost a century. Thus, bicycle traffic in Aarhus is considered a distinct traffic category with its own separate road areas – on par with motor traffic and pedestrian traffic.
