Copenhagen’s cyclists took in a new cycle short cut this week as the City of Copenhagen officially opened two new bicycle bridges.

The municipality greeted cyclists and pedestrians on their way to work with morning coffee and rolls to celebrate that Copenhagen’s cyclists now have two missing links less.

The two bridges are part of a larger network of four bridges which will connect the inner city and the part of Copenhagen known as Christianshavn and Holmen where the Opera Hourse is located in a whole new way. The bridges also form part of a green cycle route connecting the inner city to Amager beach.

Bridges over troubled water

Yet, the project has been hit with misfortune. The bridges have been delayed several times among other things due to the bankruptcy of the contracting company. Now, the first two bridges are ready, but when Copenhageners will be able to bridge the harbor on the remaining two bridges remains unclear. We hope soon!
