Vice-chairman Marianne Weinreich and Copenhagen Mayor Morten Kabell handing over the award to a representative from Giant.
The CEO of cycling company Giant, Tony Lo, has been awarded with the Cycling Embassy of Denmark’s Leadership Award for Cycling Promotion 2014 at the Velo-City 2014 Conference in Adelaide.
Every year at the Velo City Global Cycling Conference, we honor a prominent person within the international cycling community, with the leadership award for cycling promotion. During the past months, we have collected nominations from people all over the world through our newsletter and webpage. Prominent bicycle advocates, politicians, and organizations have been discussed as potential award winners.
Since we handed out the first award to Mayor Bloomberg of New York City in 2009, several other prominent personalities have received the award. These include Roelof Wittink, Lake Sagaris, Randy Neufeld and Hep Monatzeder.
This year, we have chosen to look beyond the political landscape and give the award to a prominent leader within the bicycle industry. We have decided to honor Tony Lo, the CEO of Giant, which is one of the world’s largest bicycle brands. Tony Lo has shown to be a visionary and highly dedicated leader and a great representative for the bicycle industry. He has led the way by encouraging his employees as well as the entire Taiwanese based industry to take ownership of not only the bike itself, but the entire bicycle culture as a whole. We believe Tony Lo’s dedication to cycling is highly exemplary, and sets a great example for everybody working within the production and the promotion of cycling.
