In Copenhagen, even the Queen cycles. In fact, in the land of Borgen and The Killing, cycling runs in the royal family. When the Nazis invaded Denmark, legend has it that Prince Frederick and his wife Ingrid took to the streets on their bikes to show solidarity and to prove they weren’t collaborating. How a few laps of the capital on two wheels articulated any kind of political preference isn’t clear, but the bicycle emerged as the symbol of the people.
