Denmark offers a wide range of cycling holiday opportunities. The flatness of the country and the well equipped infrastructure make Denmark ideal for being explored by bicycle. There is a plethora of exciting experiences with cozy villages, bustling market towns, manor houses, wonderful nature and a coastline stretching more than 7,000 km. Adventures are lined up like pearls on a string – most often within only a short distance by bicycle. On a bike, you can take it all in: the birds singing, the sun caressing your face, the spontaneous sightseeing in a cozy town followed by a nice lunch at the local inn or a packed lunch by the roadside.
National Cycle Route Network
A unique national cycle route network covers 4,000 km of the country. It encompasses 11 different routes connecting the individual regions of the country and most major towns and takes in many of Denmark’s greatest scenic sights and attractions – both natural and man-made. The cycle routes are signposted and mapped out on 14 country maps.
Bring Your Bike Along
It is possible to combine your cycling rides with a trip on the train. All trains have designated sections for bicycles marked with a cycle symbol. Likewise, most regional or long-distance busses have room for bicycles. Call the local bus operator for further information. All ferries in Denmark allow bicycles onboard against a charge.
The Quality Label Scheme Cycling Denmark
To ensure the best cycling experiences, Aktiv Denmark has developed a quality label scheme, which leads the way to the regions and accommodation options that provide the best facilities for cyclists. The quality label scheme ensures that both accommodation and regions comply with a number of special quality requirements and that they are aware of and prepared to meet the special requirements of the tourists on bicycles. For instance, as a cycling tourist you can always find safe parking and a toolbox for your bicycle at the many quality labelled accommodations. Just as there are always cycle maps, route descriptions and bike rental available from the tourist offices around the country. You are always guaranteed a sound breakfast and you can also buy packed lunches at the accommodations.
It Is Easy to Find
The accommodation facilities and tourist offices participating in Aktiv Denmark’s quality label scheme display the red cycle logo, so it is easy to find the quality labelled places. You can read more about Aktiv Denmark’s quality label scheme for visitors on cycling holidays at Cycling in Denmark
